Whipsnake

The say a whipsnake can charm birds
will crush its prey in death coils
and will lash itself
out of your grasp

They say a wise
collector of snakes
knows how to take
a good, firm, grip.

Wallflowers

wallflowers
are fabulous dancers
the girls whose summernights
are steeped in grief
that’s how they find
their secret pleasures
naked in the heartland
sideswiping the rooms
of empty, dreamlike houses
with their beautiful moves
